The first Krishna River Water Disputes Tribunal i.e. Bachawat Tribunal distributed project wise the 75% dependable water among three river basin states in it’s award. It was continued by the second Tribunal i.e. Brijesh Kumar Tribunal. Unfortunately now the Telangana government raised controversy over the Bachawat Tribunal’s award and demanding not to allow Krishna water to the outside the Krishna basin. As a result the water rights of the Andhra Pradesh is challenged by Telangana. The Union government obliged the Telangana request and extended the tenure of the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal for adjudication of the water issue between the two Telugu states.
