A permanent solution to the water problem in the chronic drought-hit areas depends on the protection of the rights of the Krishna River waters. The maximum utilization of Godavari River water should be done in the Godavari river basin of the state and Krishna delta, under the right and left canals of Nagarjuna Sagar Project and in the North Coastal Andhra & South Coastal Andhra. In line with this objective, the Godavari – Krishna – Penna River (Polavaram-Somasila) Linking Scheme should be implemented with the support of the Union Government. The Krishna water thus saved should be utilized from Srisailam Reservoir to the Telugu Ganga, Handri – Neeva Sujala Sravanthi, Galeru – Nagari Sujala Sravanthi and Pula Subbaiah Veligonda Projects. This is rational, practical, viable and permanent solution. The state government should work with this political will.
